Walk in the Spirit

Devotional

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:16,25

We all have the habit of looking back and looking ahead at the crucial juncture; which we can call  “transit”. Some do this every month, some every week, but for most of us, this is the time we do this strange thing looking back and looking ahead. We look back on what had happened last year and look curiously ahead on what is going to happen the coming year. It comes with a mixed baggage of regrets, accomplishments, expectations and fears. And two things happen simultaneously, thanking God for what he has done and prayerfully counting on God for what He is going to do. When Paul asks the church at Galatia to walk in the spirit, he doesn’t merely ask, but commands with great confidence that only if you walk in the spirit, you will be able to overcome the flesh. Let us also look back and recall how many times we have walked according to the flesh last year and fulfilled its lusts rather than walking in the spirit. As Paul says, many times we say we are spiritual and we live in the spirit, but have failed to walk in the way the Spirit of God wanted us to walk and walked contrary to the spirit. Let us ask forgiveness from God, commit ourselves to walk in the spirit and ask God to give the grace to walk in His spirit this year. God will surely pour out His spirit and will help us to walk in the spirit when we honestly desire it. Paul goes on to say that the fruits of the spirit, testify those who walk in the spirit. Galatians 5:22, 23 says, “The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” Let us walk in the spirit this coming year and live a fruitful life unto God.
