The everlasting love

the everlasting love

In physical sciences and mathematics, we sometimes come across a phenomenon called a Constant. Constants do not change in their value but remain the same in any mathematical expression, even if numerous changes occur around them. In short, a Constant is defined in itself. A friend of mine visited me some time back, a casual visit that turned very emotional as he started to share a recent occurrence in his life. He had been let down by someone he loved and cherished. The change was unbearable for him; he felt betrayed and I could witness his pain in the form of tears.

This is not a unique situation; many of us have gone through these painful changes in our lives, in one of the few areas where we actually hate change. A love without change is something we humans yearn for, but we often get disappointed when we do not find it. Rejection hurts everyone in all walks of life, and feeling unloved is the greatest pain one can experience. People find many ways to avoid these hurts but end up stacking up more hurt and pain in their hearts.

Is there a direct solution for this pain? A prominent speaker quotes like this: “The loneliest moment in a person’s life is the time when the ultimate thing in their life fails them;” and for many, love is the ultimate thing, though it can come in different forms and ways. The inherent truth behind this quote is that we should be careful what we place at the center of our lives, and it is very important that the ultimate thing in our life is something that is constant, which we can rely upon, something that does not disappoint us and does not change. If love is something that we trust and believe to be ultimate, then that love we trust should be one that will never change. That kind of love can never be given by anyone other than the one who created you.

In the Bible, Jeremiah 31:1 delivers a love note from God. It says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Nice, isn’t it? He promises something powerful in Isaiah 49:15: “Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!” This is what He insists on telling you: “Child, you are so precious in my eyes, I don’t care who you are, where you’re from or what you did previously, but I’m truly and deeply in love with you. Even if the whole world changes, I will be there beside you, and I’ll never leave you or forsake you, for I’m the one who created you and gave my only son (Jesus) to save you (1 John 4:10)”.

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. All kinds of love in this world are vulnerable to change, but not the one that comes from God; this love has been tried and tested time and again but has endured. This love has changed the context of many people’s lives because it is the love that never disappoints; the love that never changes and the love that is Constant all the time.
