In September 15 2008, two of the top banks in the world became bankrupt which led to a great economic disaster the world has ever seen, US market considered the strongest, came crashing down in a matter minutes. Millionaires became ordinary men and there was sense of hopelessness among people, many lost their jobs, many started wondering whether there is such a thing called future. It affected more the emotional state of men than their financial state; making many even to take away their own lives. Why there was such a trauma? Why it had such a deep emotional impact?
It’s because their hopes were on something which was not worthy of their trust, something which eventually failed them. David says in psalm 91:1-2, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He is the refuge and God in whom I trust”. These are the words of a man who had such a lot of difficulties in his life, who went through lots of pain and misery, being chased by his own son to be killed is not something you and I would expect as a king, but he says God is my refuge and strength. David could sustain all these troubles because his hope and trust was with someone whom he knew would never fail him.
Jesus narrates a wonderful parable in Matthew 7:21-28 “Two builders started to build their house , one built on a solid rock and other on sand. When floods came, the house built on sand got destroyed and grounded, but the house built on rock stood still”.
So the question is, where does our trust lie today? Are we building our trust in materialistic things that could fail us? Do we trust our finances, our abilities and strengths? If yes, it means we are very much like the builder who built his house on sand. How can we become like the wise builder? Its only by trusting in Jesus we can stand firm like the house built on solid rock , It doesn’t mean we wont face trials and temptations, but amidst all the trials he will give you the strength and courage to stand tall and take it as it comes.
You may be someone out there who says, “I have been let down by everything I believed in”, it may be your finances, may be relationships; may be anything for that matter. Jesus asks you today to come into his presence and trust in him and him alone. Psalm 18:2 says, “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust”.
Are you ready to give your life to JESUS who gave His life for you? Are you willing to genuinely seek his Dwelling Place of everlasting love?
